4 Tips to Ace Your Next Exam

Exams are fast approaching, Monarchs! It's the final stretch before the first term ends, so let's give it our all. Have you ever had a 'what's this?' moment in the middle of an exam? Without adequate preparation, assessments can be pretty tricky. While nerves are normal, you must learn to overcome them. Don't worry, I’m here to help you do so. Here are four tips to help you ace that exam!

PLAN, PLAN, PLAN

Most of us have likely experienced the consequences of last-minute reviewing. As a result, we can recognize that it is not the best strategy to prepare for an examination. To achieve your goals, you must overcome the temptation of procrastination. You should be disciplined and understand that the earlier you begin, the easier it will be for your future self.

Create a timetable before you begin reviewing. For example, you could spend one week creating your reviewer, then the next week will be dedicated to mastering it. By doing so, you will already be familiar with the majority of the subject's terminology before the exam. There's no reason to put things off till later when you'll be the one afflicted by it.

MAKE A REVIEWER

Now that you've created a timeline, it's time to make a reviewer. Typing or writing terms down are some of the most effective ways to review. Make a Google document and note down key terms from each lecture. It can be challenging if the lesson is lengthy, but do your best to recall by using your own words and perspective. After that, scroll back and reread everything you just typed. Repeating this several times allows you to grasp everything and ensure that the content you put in is accurate.

REVIEWING…

Great job! You now have a summary of everything you learned throughout the entire term. The following step is to go over everything. Key texts can be highlighted, circled, arrowed, and underlined. Reading aloud is a great way to recall and familiarize yourself with the text. Act as if you're reciting in front of the class, and make an effort to clarify your answer clearly. Put everything on the line! Use hand gestures, facial expressions, or even a whiteboard to express your answer. Drawing concept maps or applying colors can help those who are visual learners. It's essential to discover what works best for you!

SAY NO TO DISTRACTIONS!

This tip is really, really important. We can be distracted by social media, noise, and other factors when studying. Therefore, ensure that you're in a clean, quiet environment before you begin. When your surroundings are neat, it makes it easier for you to focus on what you're supposed to be doing. Then, remember to put your gadgets away. When our phones are close by, it is a strong temptation to use them. So, turn off or mute notifications. Another option is to record a time-lapse video, which will not only prevent you from using your phone, but also act as proof of your efforts. Aside from preparing and studying, it is also essential to consider the environment we are surrounded by.

Start using the 4 test preparation tips you've just learned to prepare for the upcoming term exams; all the way from planning to reviewing. Always keep in mind that positive outcomes can never be achieved without effort. Be diligent and confident in yourself, that way, you’ll surely succeed.

Monarchs, I wish you good luck! You’ve got this.
