Avengers dominate, win majority in election polls

Candidates of the Avengers Party won nine of the 13 SISC Student Council officer positions, just hours after the 2022 Luxembourg Campus Student Council Elections supervised by the Office of the Student Affairs on Monday, October 10.

Myung Jun “MJ” Yoo was proclaimed President, winning 54.09% of votes. His running mate, Mulan Azalea Sugiarto, was elected Vice President after obtaining 55.17% of votes.

Coparty members Sihyun “Sisi” Park and Sofia Leigh Sindac both won in their respective positions as Secretary and Treasurer, garnering 45.19% and 41.35% of votes each.

Juliana Denise Tan, Keithly Nicole Rubillos, and Chrizel Anne Gabriel of the same party won as the respective Strand Representatives of ABM, HUMSS, and STEM. They each received 50.00%, 45.24%, and 36.80% of votes.

Also members of the Avengers Party, Min Young “Charis” Kim led the Grade 10 Level Representative polls with an outstanding 95.56% of votes, while Karyssa Gabrelle Alamon rose to be Grade 9 Level Representative after bagging 33.10% of votes.

The Avengers Party — taking inspiration from the eponymous Marvel Comics superhero team — aimed to unite both HyVOLT and VOLT Monarchs through student-led events seeking to improve daily school life, while listening to the student body’s advice for improvement.

The party campaigned with the promise, “We don’t just fight villains, we fight for your voices.”

Jilliane Rae Gaerlan was proclaimed GAS Strand Representative after garnering 54.55% of votes, making her the sole candidate of the competing Novel Party to secure a spot in the Student Council.

Independent candidates Ju Young “Ana” Lee, Marcus Javier Rosal, and Neil Sheridan Gatchalian Jr. won as the Grades 8, 7, and 6 Level Representatives respectively. They each bagged 55.34%, 52.21%, and 89.01% of votes.

The Office of the Student Affairs proclaimed the official results of the election via campus intercom and on the SISC Student Council Facebook page. 832 of the current 918 student population voted, resulting in an election turnout of 90.63%.

The future SISC Student Council Officers will be inaugurated during a morning assembly within the month of October. They are currently organizing the first onsite School Spirit Week after two virtual academic years, which began Monday, October 21.

From October 3 to 7, election aspirants campaigned their positions, proposals, and affiliations through a mix of onsite and online material. The campaign season concluded on the 7th with an onsite Miting de Avance.
