In an era with rapid economic changes, the importance of financial literacy cannot be overstated especially for Southville Monarchs. The Senior High School (SHS) students of the Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) Strand participated in the launching event of the 2024 SGEN Stock Trading Competition with real money held last February 12, 2024, in Luxembourg Hall.

In partnership with Rotary Makati, the joint initiative aims to be more than just a competition but rather a headstart for financial literacy and understanding of the stock market. This particular event served as an opportunity for students to gain a comprehensive insight into the world of the stock market. Through this short seminar, they were able to be knowledgeable about the fundamental and technical aspects involved in investing in stocks.

With the guidance of their Business teachers, each class ventured into a competition with strategies and lessons to learn along the way. As each class transformed into a team, they developed their investment strategies, shared knowledge, and learned from each other's experiences. This collaborative approach encouraged teamwork, mentorship, and problem-solving skills. After two months of careful trading, Southville's ABM reaped victories as the competition came to the close. Antonio M. Dy of 12-Service won the Individual Category of the inter-SGEN contest, bagging a Brent Torrance Value Investor Award. This was given on April 24, 2024 by Rotary Makati at the Bistro Lima of SISFU. With an initial investment of Php 10,000, Dy was able to gain a profit of 3.44% from February to April.

The 2024 SGEN Stock Trading Competition was a game-changer for SHS ABM students. It was a learning experience that prepared them for the real financial world. They gained valuable skills, advice, and spirit to make informed decisions and succeed in their future careers. This event empowered them to become financially responsible individuals who can someday contribute to the economy.
