“What’s your New Year's resolution?” A question most of us have probably heard dozens of times once the new year rolls around. People tend to have this concept that they can only start a new project or make a big change in their lives at the very beginning of the year. The whole idea of “starting the year right” and “setting the tone” for the new year. That’s why New Year's resolutions are so popular. Contrary to popular belief, it is never too late to start the new year right. In reality, change can happen at any given moment. Whether you feel motivated to start at the beginning, the middle or the end of the year, you can still make 2022 your year. Here are a few things that you can do to make the most of the new year.
Create your new year resolutions (the right way!).
Let’s start doing this tradition right this 2022. We tend to set so many new year resolutions that we end up giving up within the first few months. Before listing down your goals, reflect on the previous year. Once you’ve done that, write down your major goals for the new year and your reason/motivation as to why it is in that list. Next, create mini goals that you can do in order to achieve it. It will be easier to be motivated when you can see the small progresses you make to reach your goals. Treat these resolutions as tangible goals, rather than chalking them up to empty sentiments. Remember, new year resolutions don’t have to have a specific deadline, so don’t be too pressured!
Make a vision board.
You wouldn’t really feel inspired if you looked at a piece of paper with a bunch of words written on it, right? A vision board can serve as a reminder for you throughout the year. Put on some music (if you prefer) and create away! You can make it as simple or as creative as you want, it can even be digital. It should motivate and remind you of the goals you made. You can hang it up in your room, or set it as your computer or tablet’s display so you can easily see it. Just make sure that it aligns with your current goals!
Clean up your space.
As simple as this tip sounds, it is often easier said than done. We should leave all of the things and thoughts that will only stop us from reaching our best in 2021. Declutter both your room and your mind. Thinking of all the “what if”s won’t do you any good. Creating an organized space can help you stay focused and motivated. Removing unnecessary clutter in your mind and surroundings makes space for the many things that you will accomplish in the new year.
To wrap this up, how this new year starts depends entirely on you. The way you decide to view this new year will affect your decisions and actions. These past two years have been hard for everyone. Make sure to always take things at your own pace, understanding that it is always valid to do so. The global pandemic limits us from going out of our houses and seeing the world and people around us making it difficult to make the most of the year the way we want to. That being said, let’s remember to look on the bright side and see this new year as an opportunity for us to improve. Wishing everyone a productive new year!
