After two years of restricted outdoor events, the Junior-Senior Promenade (JS Prom) was finally held at the New World Makati Hotel on March 10, 2023. Grades 11 and 12 Monarchs celebrated the night after completing their final examinations and concluding the second term successfully.
Monarchs attended with their utmost glamor and style following the event theme, "Aurum: a Glowing Dawn," which was inspired by The Great Gatsby. Highlights of the event include fine dining, live performances, and ceremonies signifying the purpose of the grand occasion
Preparations and planning
Weeks before the event, faculty members and students thoroughly planned the organization of the event. Each segment of the prom was given a proper time, ensuring that no time would be wasted for anyone. Volunteer students either chose to be emcees, performers, or cotillion dancers. All of the participating students were given time and guidance throughout the preparations. Despite hectic schedules, unexpected changes, and limited time, the committees were able to deliver their best during the big day.
On the same note, attendees of the promenade also prepared and acquired outfits to assure that they would attend looking their best in style. Monarchs were chosen to practice performing the cotillion, which consisted of many monarchs from Grades 11–12. Philipe Castellvi, the prom prince of the night, stated, "I prepared for the prom’s cotillion since I was part of it. The cotillion practices were for three weeks; so we had good preparation time for that."
‘You only live once’
The high school promenade was hosted by Kim Geon, Yi Lynn Hwang, Minami Oikawa, and Matthew Cabiles, from IB 1, 11-Excellence, and 11-Efficiency, respectively. A grand entrance to the ballroom was held, featuring each section in its full, made-up Great Gatsby look. After the first batch of emcees opened the event, the fine dining came afterward. Attendees were given a three-course meal, and as they enjoyed the meals, videos created by our very own Monarchs were presented. The videos created by the seniors showcased what to expect from the upcoming seniors for next year. On the other hand, videos created by the juniors showcased a tribute and a thank you message for the graduating batch.
After the fine dining, Ms. Jocelyn Tizon, the president of SISC was given the spotlight for her welcoming remarks. "You only live once, and you need to live a life that’s successful…Chase your dreams and work extra hard to achieve your goals," said Ms. Tizon. Eventually, the spotlight was passed onto the cotillion dancers; which was one of the most anticipated highlights of the event. The cotillion dancers stood out as they showcased a combination of traditional cotillion and modern dances. Following the segment was the talent showcase, where different student performers shone on center stage. Tiffany Sawaki, one of the singers, emphasized that it was an amazing experience. "I really enjoyed performing on stage, and it felt good to perform again. It enables me to gain some confidence." Kurt Perido, who also sang, recalled, "Expressing my talent in prom really made me nervous since there were so many people, but I still want to perform for fun. Prom was really fun, and I got to enjoy it with the people I know."
The Cup and Key Ceremony is an important tradition of SISC proms, where representatives of each Grade 12 strand pass on the key of responsibility to juniors. Myung Jun Yoo (STEM), Keithly Nicole Rubillos (HUMSS), Jiliane Rae Gaerlan (GAS), Francis Bartolome (ABM), and Chelcy S. Maneses (IB). On the contrary, Grade 11 representatives awarded the seniors with the cup of success. Matthew Cabiles (HUMSS), Nathan Dichupa (STEM), Una Villano (GAS), Juliana Tan (ABM), and Cho Woo Sung (IB) signified the achievements of the batch of 2023.
The event also presented awards for those who stood out in their formal attire. Marcus Gabriel Javier, the most stylish man of the night, stated that he "felt very surprised to win an award during prom as there were many attendees who I thought really stood out in their outfits. I made sure that all my clothes fit me well and that I was prepared before the night." After every segment of the prom was accomplished, it was finally time for the students to party and enjoy the rest of the night.
Monarchs cherished the moments
Overall, the event concluded with cherished memories and a successful flow of events. Jacques San Andres Raven of Grade 12 stated that "since it’s going to be my last prom before graduating, it was really nice to attend prom. I wanted to at least celebrate and have fun with the people that I’ve been around for years and care for the most. It was great to have six years filled with fun and memories at this school.”
Lovable Princess Tomanquin of Grade 12 also stated that "it was very significant, and I was ecstatic when they announced prom was pushed through. The prom committee did not disappoint for the big day."
For its participants, the 2023 JS Prom signified a celebration of the success of our very own senior monarchs and their overall legacy in school. As they were about to embark on their new journeys, they regarded the event as a commemoration and celebration of their hard work and achievements throughout the year.
