Life’s Necessities

sometimes, this is all a person needs:

to have people care for them.

a house, a home.

a bed, warm and comfortable.

the feeling of the sun on your skin.

the cold bite of wind against your cheeks.

to see leaves swaying in the trees.

love.

your own joy that sits inside your heart.

the tender happiness that comes from being with the people you love.

sleepiness, the type that makes you feel sentimental and weepy—

when your eyelids droop and your body is tired,

but your soul is singing, purring contentedly in its place inside your body,

and you’re perfectly content, perfectly happy to exist in a quiet moment.

sometimes, this is all a person needs:

something to remind them that life, despite everything, is infinitely good.

so though it seems that life is cruel,

and the world even more—

and though it seems that for every good thing that happens,

10 more bad things arrive—

for now, just exist in this moment.

there are days, weeks, months, and years ahead,

and they will come.

they will come.

for now, just cherish this moment for what it is.

remember each little thing and commit it to memory,

whether it be the gentle rise and fall of your chest as you breathe,

or the beating of your heart as it takes root in your body—

calling to you, reminding you that all will be alright, no matter what.

that life, despite everything, is infinitely good.
