As the school year is about to end, it is time again to find a new set of student leaders for the next academic year. The candidates for the 2024 Student Council Elections have exerted hard work in their days of campaigns and the Miting de Avance, and one of the major running contenders is the MAX Party. Noting its aim to maximize the Student Council’s abilities, The Mover was able to interview selected candidates to know more about their goals and aspirations this polling season.

The MAX Party consists of Min Young “Charis” Kim for President, Kimoon “Martin” for Vice President, Joshua Levi Santos for Secretary, and Juyoung “Ana” Lee for Treasurer. Alongside them are their grade-level and strand-level representatives: Vienne Alex Silangan for Grade 8, Sua Jin for Grade 9, Seulbi Lee for Grade 10, Sean Marcus Rodriguez for ABM, Boris Principe for HUMSS, Jiyeon “Sarah” Huh for GAS, and Vince Kristian Santos for STEM. Together, they work to secure a position for the next academic year.

“To simply put it, change. Something new, something innovative,” the MAX Party collectively said on what it envisions for the next academic year. “The Student Council is a platform that can elevate the student body to greater heights.” The party is driven towards creating new change for the students’ benefit through their offered proposals.

According to the MAX Party, the creation of their proposals is divided into the needs and wants of the students, striking a balance between creating new changes and having a touch of relevant themes from previous SISC Student Councils. As much as possible, the party is determined to execute these proposals for the greater benefit of the students. They said, “We wanted to find the perfect balance on proposals that we will do everything to push through.”

The party focuses heavily on accountability, trust, and inclusivity. These are their main values as a party that wishes the best for the student community. Charis, Joshua, and Juyoung are the current student council members aiming for another reelection. Nevertheless, the other party members are part of student organizations with leadership experience.

Vice presidential candidate Martin emphasized that his leadership roles and experiences helped him shape his qualities for the vice president role. He declared, “I will be transparent when it comes to student issues and be ears to the wants of the students.”

Overall, the party will continue to pursue its goal of becoming the new set of Student Council leaders who are experienced, inclusive, and grounded. Kim goes on to elaborate, “Our purpose is simple, for the students. I know that it sounds fake or unrealistic but it’s true. It was wanting to do something right within the school boundaries.”

The 2024 Student Council Elections will be held on the morning of May 15, 2024. All Monarchs will ultimately decide on who will be their next Student Council officers.
