Self-Love During the Pandemic

The current pandemic has been lingering everywhere as people encounter countless deaths, work their butts off to make a living, and transition to online learning, which has been affecting us not only physically but emotionally. Have you noticed that this has been affecting your mental health? While some may not, we all get the feeling of not being able to go out and meet up with our friends like we used to. Things have changed and happened for a reason.

People are dealing with the emotional impact of losing loved ones. Many have encountered grief which shows how much the pandemic has affected us all. Staying at home for so long makes us feel like we’re stuck. The surge of worry, concern and fear fills us as the virus affects our mental health in different ways. We sometimes forget to prioritize our health and are not aware of how much being isolated could damage us more.

What is Self-Love?

According to BBRFoundation, self-love is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, spiritual, and psychological growth. There are different ways to explain what self-love is.

  • Growing to love yourself

  • Listening to what your body needs

  • Taking breaks from the world

With the pandemic ongoing, we sometimes forget how to take care of ourselves. We shouldn’t aim for perfection, but for personal growth.

How & why should we practice the importance of self-love?

Self-love really makes us aware that we should care for ourselves and our well being. Personally, when I try to practice self-love, I give affirmations to myself to gain confidence. Sometimes, I really don’t have the confidence to do things or grow but, since quarantine, I’ve been trying to focus more on myself. Self-love makes you motivated to make healthy choices in life.

Tips to Practice Self-Love:

  • Don’t worry about what others think about you.

  • Be active.

  • Take the time to pamper yourself as a reward.

  • Hone your hobbies.

  • Get some rest.

  • Forgive yourself or someone.

It’s important to practice self-love during the pandemic because it gives you the motivation to make healthy choices. Growing to love yourself helps you to be more vulnerable and unafraid to reach out for help which is essential. When we grow to love ourselves, we get to make healthier choices and boundaries. Taking care of yourself by taking the time to pamper yourself can help your body return to normal and ease the physical symptoms of stress. You deserve to be kind to yourself. I believe in you!
