In the era of heightened climate awareness, Southville’s  Environmental Mind Organization (EMO) Club took steps toward fostering sustainability within our school community. On December 6 and 7, 2023, the EMO Club held a two-day initiative in the Luxembourg Walkway, aiming to raise awareness about recycling through a creative approach.

Club (IB) President Jisoo Lee explained that the inspiration behind this project stemmed from the core advocacy: translating awareness into action. Whether it is the paper donation drive, the bazaar, or future campaigns, EMO’s fundamental belief lies in empowering individuals to transform knowledge into impactful change.

On December 6, 2023, the EMO Club launched its environmental initiative with a paper donation drive. The club volunteers are passionately engaged with encouraging the Southville community to contribute their unused or discarded paper materials. The success of this drive laid a solid foundation for the club’s mission to raise awareness and instill the importance of recycling within our community.

On December 7, 2023, the club hosted a brief but impactful bazaar. Club members not only sold delectable food and beverages but also showcased their creative prowess by presenting recycled paper transformed into “paper-mache plates.” The bazaar, not just a marketplace, featured the booth’s advocate for sustainability. This event marked the culmination of EMO's impactful two-day initiative.

Club (Basic Ed) President Carlos De Guzman candidly shared how his personal perspective on sustainability transformed the project. “Well, to be honest, it’s taught me a really important part about the environmental care problem that everyone seems to disregard.”

Treasurer Onyu Kim also added that throughout the project, she highlighted the significance of community engagement in driving sustainable initiatives. Through this experience, she gained invaluable insights into the power of collaboration, the importance of creative outreach, and the profound impact of seemingly small actions.

At the end of the day, Club (IB) President Lee concluded that “Even if our campaigns are not always ‘successful,’ what matters most is instilling hope into the people who come across EMO that it is not too late to start now.” These words encapsulate the unwavering spirit of EMO and its commitment to sparking positive change.

The EMO Club’s determination and hard work throughout this project have yielded encouraging results, setting the stage for future advocacy events. This initiative has not only raised awareness about recycling but also fostered a sense of community engagement and a belief that change is achievable, even in the face of daunting environmental challenges.
