Pep Rally Raises School Spirit

Students, teachers, and parents alike were wonderstruck by Southville’s first Pep Rally since the COVID-19 pandemic, held in Monarchs Gym this October 24, 2023.

Despite the rain, Monarchs still showed up in their school colors, namely purple, to support their schoolmates who will be participating in this year’s International Schools Athletics Conference (ISAC) Season 1. Teachers even held up print-outs of their students in varsity while cheering them on with wide smiles on their faces.

The electricity was felt by every person present. Students were singing and clapping along to the music that played while they were waiting for the event to officially start.his just goes to show how excited the Monarchs were.

Shortly after that, cheerleaders Yoeiza Garcia and Julio Zioutos taught the audience the three cheers that everyone should use to show their tremendous support for the SISC ISAC players. The drums were loud, but the voices of the audience were louder.

Following this was the announcement & showcase of SISC’s 2023 athletics line. This included customizable jerseys in different styles and colors, along with a varsity hoodie. Varsity and non-varsity players were highly encouraged to get their own pieces to further show their love for the school.

Then came the most awaited event of the afternoon: The Southville Cheer Elite’s (SISC Pep Squad) performance. Everyone was speechless as they showed their skills. Every cheerleader moved in sync with one another. The students and staff expressed their astonishment after it was revealed that they put that routine together and rehearsed for only one week.

Pep Squad Captain Cassy Bernabe says, “There were times [when] we felt like we wouldn’t be able to make it. There was often doubt and setbacks. But, we looked for solutions, guided one another, and used those setbacks as an opportunity for growth and learning.”

According to Cassy, “It was challenging for me as captain & the coaches and rest of the squad as we only had one week to prepare, but we never forgot to have fun and enjoy every moment we had together despite the hardships we experienced.”

In the end, while players and non-players awaited the year’s ISAC Season 1, the Pep Rally was a wonderful way to spark the fire in our school’s athletes and remind ourselves that we bleed purple.
