FaStBall returns with competitive camaraderie

As an extended conclusion to the school pride festivities initiated during Spirit Week, the school Athletics Department held the Faculty and Student Ball (FaStBall) 2022 — a mini sports tournament in the Monarch’s Gym last October 28 and November 11 for JHS and SHS respectively.

The tournament allowed students and faculty members alike to competitively participate in the school’s three main sports activities: volleyball, football, and basketball. The event also aimed to promote student-teacher camaraderie in days of respite from academic activities.

Due to the past quarantine restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, FaStBall 2022 marked its return since 2019, as well as the first major intra-school sports event for this school year and after two virtual learning years.

Participants created their own teams consisting of students from different grade levels and faculty members. However, teams were only allowed to have at most three varsity players and two faculty members playing simultaneously.

The tournament consisted of games wherein different student-teacher teams played against each other to compete for the top spot. The teams lessened through bracket elimination, with the two highest-winning groups moving on to the championship.

The event also held an exhibition game where the champion International Schools Athletics Conference (ISAC) volleyball team went against a full team of faculty members. Another special game between said faculty members and Athletics Department varsity coaches ensued.

Students that didn’t participate in the games attended to spectate and cheer for their competing classmates and friends throughout the tournament’s whole duration.

The school heads saw the event really put on display the students’ competitive spirit and active participation in sports. They mentioned that the event’s purpose of strengthening students' and teachers’ camaraderie was achieved.
